Join us for a conversation on fracking and what we can do about it, as we host workers severely impacted by fracking who want their stories told.
We will be joined by Mac Sawyer, a former fracking worker who is now speaking out against the industry, as well as Dr. Walter Tsou, former commissioner of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
Other speakers will include local leaders from Food & Water Watch and Iris Marie Bloom, Executive Director of Protecting Our Waters.

On May 30th, the School Reform Commission will pass a budget that will virtually eliminate every program and service our schools provide for children.
Everyone is invited to come together at 440 N. Broad St. to call for an end to austerity budget cuts to school programs. In her new book, “Wild Children – Domesticated Dreams: Civilization and the Birth of Education” (Fernwood, May 2013), Layla AbdelRahim examines and critiques the underlying premises of the overarching and interrelated systems that form the basis of what we call “civilization”. She also examines how these (often unquestioned) premises structure both our socio-environmental and socio- economic relationships. In this conversation, Layla will discuss how the human-animal origin
stories justify coercive relationships of dominance, relationships that splinter our sense of community with our environment.
Layla AbdelRahim is an author, anthropologist and comparatist. She offers a critique of civilization from an interdisciplinary perspective that includes such fields as literature, medical anthropology, anthropology of science, ethology, ecology and education. She currently lives in Montreal, Canada.

Unfamilar of what NPFNB is? Food Not Bombs operates on the belief that we must work to build alternative institutions NOW, at the grassroots level, to help create the just society we would like to live in. This is why Food Not Bombs is all-volunteer, collectively run, non-hierarchical, and anti-authoritarian. All decisions, within each autonomous chapter, are made by consensus. No one is in charge. No one gives us orders. We have no leader or headquarters. Things get done because people see that something needs doing.
Unfamilar of what PJSC is? We organize “support” days, in which we connect with formerly incarcerated folks, as well as family and friends visiting their loved ones. We believe the justice system is flawed and the prison system perpetuates inhumane treatment. These so-called “correctional” facilities are based off a system of profit rather than rehabilitation. We wish to promote an empathetic response to former inmates and their otherwise stigmatized and criminalized identity. We provide inmate visitations when requested and food, cold drinks, bus tokens, hugs, smokes and resource documentation to those released.

MOM-n-PA is an annual two-day free dental clinic for under served Pennsylvanians. All services are provided free of charge by members of organized dentistry and assisted by a host of volunteers.
MOM-n-PA provides dental care for the relief of pain to thousands of the most needy, many of whom are from working families who do not have access or cannot afford dental insurance.
Many of these patients might otherwise have no hope of receiving care.
During our mission on May 31 and June 1st, 2013, more than 800 volunteers, including 120 dentists will treat around 2,000 patients!!!!!!
Services Include: fillings, cleanings, extractions, and much more! No eligibility or income requirements, Children & Adults welcome. Doors Open At 6 am
