We intend to show everyone in this region just what we think of the drones! They are violations of our Fourth Amendment liberties and they kill innocent children overseas! This is not the “Change” Obama promises America, and now we must defend the dream! Come out, it should be a powerful, historic day!

Thursday, September 12, Support the Overturn Citizens United Ballot Question in Philadelphia this November,
The Philly Defends Democracy Coalition is pushing to get a ballot question placed on the 2013 November election this Fall. However, the question is not on the ballot yet!
We need your help! We provide the email, website, Facebook page, and twitter account for the City Council Members who sit on the Law and Government Committee. Please send the following message to the Council Members listed below.
We’re counting on you to help save our democracy from the flood of corporate money – Please support Bill No. 130059 and Resolution No. 130073 – the Overturn Citizens United Ballot Question – that is currently in the Law and Government Committee.
Here’s a link to Resolution 130073:
Let’s give Philadelphia’s voters a great reason to head to the polls on Election Day. A landslide victory for our ballot question will help push the PA General Assembly to ratify a constitutional amendment that overturns Citizens United and says corporations are not people and money is not speech
We also need you to call on Chairman Greenlee to convene a special meeting of the Law and Government Committee prior to 10 am on September 12, 2013 to vote on Bill No. 130059 and Resolution No. 130073, so the legislation can be passed in time to put the question on the November ballot.

Please send a message of thanks to Council Members Quinones Sanchez and Goode: Thank you for your support of the Citizens United ballot question. We salute your leadership in the movement for a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.

CALL TO ACTION
Building People’s Power is sponsoring a rally in Philadelphia in support of Sister Marissa Alexander. She was a victim of domestic violence, and because she defended herself against her attacker– her husband, by firing a warning shot in the air, she is currently serving a 20 year prison sentence. She was a victim of abuse, but now she is a victim of this rotten unjust system. She is currently sitting in the Lowell Annex Facility for Women in Ocala, Florida awaiting her second trial.
The following issues will be discussed at the rally: domestic violence, white supremacy, poverty in the Black community, the war on Black people, the shutting down of schools, and the attack on Syria.
Featured speakers: Ewuare X. Osayande – activist and editor- Stand Our Ground: Poems for Trayvon Martin and Marissa Alexander (StandOurGround.com), Pam Africa- Chairwoman of International Concern Family and Friends for Mumia Abu Jamal and MOVE member, and Dr. Anthony Monteiro- activist and professor in the African American Studies Department at Temple University. There will also be other speakers at this event.

Sunday, September 15, 11:00am, MEEP Work Party, Mercy Street Edible Garden, 521-536 Mercy Street, Philadelphia
It’s been too long since we’ve gathered at the Mercy-Emily Edible Park (MEEP)! She’s a wild beauty! Let’s all get together to enjoy each other’s company while giving our garden some TLC.
A few specifics we want to tackle: clear spaces for fall planting, plant garlic for next year, plant more fall crops, trim mulberry tree, cut down weeds in all areas outside the fence, cut down/pull up hops and poke weed, prep a spot for mulch dump, harvest herbs
As always, let’s each bring a dish to share!
At 5pm we’d like to sit down and have a chat about making winter plans, projects, and potential workshops. We’d also like to review what we did this season and discuss how we can improve upon that for next season.
Look forward to seeing you there!
